Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Named Chair of IPU Asia-Pacific Group
Bangladesh Parliament Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, has become chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s Asia-Pacific Group.
He officially took over the role from Bhutanese Speaker Tempa Dorji in Arusha, Tanzania, on Monday (October 5).
The Asia-Pacific Group has 37 member countries. As its chairman, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed will give Bangladesh a stronger role in representing the region’s parliaments and coordinating their activities within the IPU.
The speaker left Dhaka for Tanzania on Sunday (October 4) to attend the 153rd IPU Assembly. The conference is being held in Arusha from October 5 to 9.
