The Rampal Thermal Power Plant in Bagerhat has set a new electricity generation record.
For the first time, its two units are jointly producing 1,321 megawatts of electricity, which is being supplied directly to the national grid.
Anwarul Azim, chief human resources officer of the power plant, confirmed the information on Saturday night (October 3).
He said that at around 4:30 pm, the first unit was generating 656 megawatts of electricity, while the second unit was producing 665 megawatts.
Electricity generation at the second unit had recently been suspended because of a technical fault. Continuous production resumed after the problem was repaired.
Bangladesh and India jointly began plans to build the power plant in 2010. On January 29, 2012, the Bangladesh Power Development Board and India’s National Thermal Power Corporation signed an agreement and formed the Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Limited.
