Uranium En Route to Rooppur Under Tight Security
A convoy carrying uranium has left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant under tight army security.
The nuclear fuel, imported for the plant’s first unit, is being transported to Rooppur in three lorries.
The convoy left for Rooppur in Ishwardi at around 7:15 am on Saturday (October 3). Alongside the army, members of the Special Response Battalion (SRB), police, and various intelligence agencies are providing security.
Special measures have been taken along the Dhaka–Pabna Highway to ensure the convoy’s safe movement. One lane of the highway is being kept completely clear while the vehicles pass.
A special aircraft carrying the uranium landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 11:30 pm on Friday. Officials from the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority later received the shipment.
