Union Parishad Elections Must Be Completed Before June 6: Election Commissioner Sanaullah
Local government elections to Union Parishads must be completed before June 6, 2027, Election Commissioner retired Brigadier General Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah has said.

He made the statement while briefing journalists after a preparatory meeting at the Election Bhaban in Agargaon, Dhaka. The meeting brought together the Election Commission, relevant ministries, government divisions and other authorities to discuss preparations for the upcoming parliamentary by-election and local government polls.

Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin chaired the meeting. The four election commissioners and EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed were also present.

Other participants included the Cabinet Secretary, the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration, secretaries from all election-related ministries, representatives of the Bangladesh Bank governor and the Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division, and the heads of law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

Sanaullah said personnel from the army and other relevant forces would be deployed for the Thakurgaon-1 by-election, as they were during the national election.

He added that the technologies used in the national election would also be used in the by-election.
