Twin Brother and Sister Drown in Pond at Maternal Grandparents’ Home
Eight-year-old twins Tanisha and Raihan drowned in a pond while visiting their maternal grandparents’ home in Sirajdikhan, Munshiganj.
The incident occurred at around 1:30 pm on Sunday (September 27). The children were later taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
Their father, Sharif, lives and works in Kuwait. The family is from the Thulthulia Chairman Bari area of Demra in Dhaka.
At the hospital, the children’s maternal grandfather, Kashem Mia, said the twins had come to visit their grandparents on Saturday.
On Sunday afternoon, they went to play beside a pond near the house without anyone noticing. One of them accidentally fell into the water. The other tried to help but also fell into the pond and went under the water.
Local residents later found the twins floating in the pond and took them to a nearby hospital. They were then rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared both children dead at around 3:30 pm.
