Meta Interested in Opening an Office in Dhaka
Facebook’s parent company, Meta, has expressed interest in opening an office in Dhaka.
The US technology company also wants to work with Bangladesh on cyber security and support the growth of the country’s e-commerce and online business sectors.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid shared the information at a press conference held at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York on Tuesday (September 22), local time.
“We had a very productive meeting with Meta. The company is interested in opening an office in Dhaka,” she said.
According to the state minister, Meta plans to establish its focal point in Dhaka because the company considers Bangladesh a major Facebook market, with more users than India.
She added that the meeting also covered Bangladesh’s Cyber Security Act. Meta agreed to support the expansion of e-commerce and online trade in the country.
