Penalty Fee to Apply from Second Passport Loss or Damage
The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued new rules for reissuing passports that are lost, stolen or damaged.
Under the new rules, passport holders must report a lost or stolen passport online immediately and file a general diary at the nearest police station.
No extra penalty will be charged the first time a passport is lost, stolen or damaged. However, from the second time onward, the applicant must pay a penalty of 10,000 taka in addition to the regular passport fee.
The ministry’s Exit-4 Section issued the circular on Tuesday (September 22). It was signed by Deputy Secretary Mohammad Nuruzzaman.
The circular said many people had recently applied for replacement passports after reporting their passports as lost, stolen or damaged.
The ministry said passports are sensitive travel documents, and their misuse could create serious security risks, including human trafficking, illegal entry and activities against the state. The new rules were introduced to reduce these risks.
