For journeys of up to 100 kilometres, the fare has increased by 22 poisa for each passenger per kilometre. For journeys of more than 100 kilometres, the fare has risen by 19 poisa per kilometre.
This represents an increase of 7.46 per cent for shorter journeys and 7.54 per cent for longer journeys.
The Ministry of Shipping issued a notification on Thursday (September 24), and the new fares took effect the same day.
For journeys of up to 100 kilometres, the fare has increased from 2 taka 95 poisa to 3 taka 17 poisa per kilometre.
For distances of more than 100 kilometres, the fare has risen from 2 taka 52 paisa to 2 taka 71 poisa per kilometre.
The minimum fare for each passenger has also increased from 32 taka to 35 taka.
The notification said the new fare rates must be clearly displayed at all river port terminals and in visible areas on passenger vessels.
