The government has raised the price of low-tier cigarettes again. Under the new decision, the minimum retail price of a pack of 10 low-tier cigarettes has increased from Tk 62 to Tk 65.
The decision was announced in a gazette notification signed on Wednesday (September 16) by Ahsan Habib, acting chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR). Details were made public on Thursday (September 17).
According to the notification, prices in the other categories will remain unchanged. A pack of 10 medium-tier cigarettes will continue to cost Tk 92, while the prices for high-tier and premium cigarettes will remain Tk 160 and Tk 210 or more, respectively.
The Cabinet recently approved a proposal to increase the price of low-tier cigarettes. Prices across all categories had previously been raised in the national budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year.
