Bank Accounts Holding Tk 1 Crore or More Rise by 5,077 in Three Months
The number of bank accounts in Bangladesh holding deposits of Tk 1 crore or more increased by 5,077 within three months. During the same period, total deposits in these accounts rose by Tk 16,498 crore.
The figures were obtained from an analysis of Bangladesh Bank data released on Monday (September 14).
According to the central bank’s latest report, there were 136,485 such accounts at the end of March. By the end of June, the number had increased to 141,562.
At the end of December last year, the banking sector had 134,044 accounts holding Tk 1 crore or more, indicating that the number has continued to rise.
The figures represent bank accounts, not individual account holders, as one person or organisation may hold multiple accounts.
