Bangladesh Bank has resumed selling US dollars after a break of more than 14 months as demand for the currency increases. The move is aimed at meeting additional demand and maintaining stability in the foreign exchange market.
Central bank officials said Bangladesh Bank sold a total of $11.5 million to six banks on Tuesday.
According to Bangladesh Bank data, the average interbank exchange rate stood at Tk 123.35 per dollar on Tuesday, up from Tk 123.20 on Monday.
Rising global fuel prices have increased Bangladesh’s import costs. Oil prices have also climbed amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, leading to higher demand for dollars in the country’s foreign exchange market.
