Elderly Woman’s Body Found Floating in Canal with Sandbag Tied to Her Waist
Police have recovered the body of Hasna Khatun, 70, four days after she went missing in Mirpur Upazila of Kushtia. A sack filled with sand had been tied around her waist with a cotton towel.
The body was recovered from the GK Irrigation Canal in the Gobindagunia area of Dhubail Union at around 11 a.m. on Friday (September 5).
Hasna Khatun was the wife of Karim Ali from Kharara village in neighbouring Bahalbaria Union.
Hasna last spoke to her son, Hasan Ali, at around midnight on Monday before going to sleep in her room. Before dawn, family members discovered that she was missing and searched for her in several places. They filed a missing-person report at Mirpur Police Station the following day.
Four days after her disappearance, local residents spotted her body floating in the GK Irrigation Canal and called the national emergency helpline, 999. Police then arrived at the scene and recovered the body.
Her family alleges that she was the victim of a premeditated murder. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.
