At least seven people have been killed and 25 others injured after gas cylinders in a covered van exploded and caused a fire at a garment factory in Jamgora, Ashulia, Savar.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening (September 20) on the premises of a Pretty Group factory.
According to initial reports, the cylinders exploded while they were being unloaded from the covered van.
Several loud explosions were heard across the factory premises, while flames could be seen from a considerable distance. Panic spread among workers, and the blasts shattered glass windows and doors at the factory.
Shahabuddin, senior station officer at Zirabo Fire Service, said firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the fire.
Two units from the DEPZ Fire Service and six units from the Zirabo Modern Fire Service worked to contain the blaze.
The fire was brought under control at around 8:45 pm after nearly two hours of effort.
