Online VAT Returns Made Mandatory for 11 Sectors
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has made online VAT return filing mandatory for 11 sectors, including cigarettes, pharmaceuticals, mobile phones, banking and insurance.
The NBR’s VAT Wing issued the order on Sunday (September 20).
The 11 sectors are cigarettes, mobile phones, mild steel products, pharmaceuticals, beverages, cement, tiles, paints and varnishes, insurance, banking and non-banking services, and mobile banking services.
Under the order, manufacturers and service providers in these sectors must now submit their VAT returns through the NBR’s e-VAT portal.
The requirement will also apply to registered businesses that supply any of the listed goods or services alongside other products or services.
The NBR said any previous orders concerning mandatory online VAT return filing would be considered revoked once the new order takes effect.
