The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen climate resilience in the fisheries and livestock sectors.

The agreement aims to address the effects of climate change, improve institutional capacity and make better use of international climate-financing opportunities.

The MoU was signed at a ceremony held in the ministry’s conference room. Baby Rani Karmakar, joint secretary of the ministry’s International Organisations and Cooperation Wing, and Dr Fazle Rabbi Sadek Ahmed, research and policy adviser at ICCCAD, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.

Md Delwar Hossain, secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, chaired the event.

He described climate change as a major challenge for the fisheries and livestock sectors and stressed that the MoU should not remain merely a formality.

The secretary said the activities undertaken under the agreement must be properly implemented to make an effective contribution to the two sectors.

He also urged officials from the ministry and its affiliated departments and agencies to make full use of the training and technical assistance available under the agreement.
