Greece Make History with First Win Over Germany
Greece have recorded their first-ever victory over four-time world champions Germany, winning 1-0 in a historic match.
After failing to win any of their previous 10 meetings, Greece finally defeated Germany in the teams’ 11th match since their rivalry began in 1960.
Germany controlled possession and created most of the chances from the beginning of the match in Augsburg. Despite launching several attacks, they could not break through Greece’s strong defence.
Greece had only one attempt on Germany’s goal during the match, but it proved enough to secure the victory.
Christos Tzolis scored the only goal. He moved down the right side, got past Josha Vagnoman and exchanged passes with Kourbelis. Tzolis then went past Felix Nmecha and fired a low shot. The ball deflected off Germany captain Joshua Kimmich and went into the net.
Germany pushed hard for an equaliser, but Greece defended well and held on for a historic 1-0 victory.
