Tourist Drowns While Retrieving Football from Sea in Cox’s Bazar

The Fire Service has recovered the body of a tourist who was swept away by strong currents while trying to retrieve a football from the sea at Cox’s Bazar beach.The incident occurred on Friday evening (September 18) near Green Nature Point, located between Sugandha and Kalatali points.
The victim was identified as Md Simanto, a resident of the Sholakia area in Kishoreganj town. He had travelled to Cox’s Bazar with friends.
The group was playing football on the beach when the ball drifted into the sea. Simanto and two of his friends entered the water to retrieve it but were caught by strong currents and tidal waves.
Beach staff and lifeguards rescued two of them, identified as Moaz and Turjo. However, Simanto was swept away and went missing.
After receiving the news, the Fire Service and Tourist Police launched a search operation. About two and a half hours later, at around 8:30 pm, Simanto’s body surfaced near the scene.
He was taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, where the attending doctor declared him dead.
