Removed Cantonment Police OC Taken into DB Custody Over Viral Audio

Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) has taken Rakibul Hasan, the recently removed officer-in-charge (OC) of Cantonment Police Station, into custody for questioning over an audio recording circulated on social media.

Detectives took him into custody on Thursday night (September 17). The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has formed a three-member committee to investigate the incident, and committee members are questioning him.

Rakibul Hasan, a police inspector, had been serving as the OC of Cantonment Police Station. An audio recording purportedly featuring him began circulating on social media on Wednesday night.

In the recording, a voice said to be his can be heard making controversial and critical remarks about the current government, the civil administration, the Bangladesh Army and the police.

Several police sources said a preliminary examination indicated that the voice and comments in the recording were those of Inspector Rakibul Hasan.
