Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to Address UN General Assembly on September 24

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will leave Dhaka for New York on Monday. He is scheduled to address the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 24.
Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam announced the details at a press conference held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday (September 20).
He said the prime minister’s speech would focus on Bangladesh’s democratic renewal, the rule of law and accountability, global peace and security, climate change, sustainable development, economic cooperation, youth and women’s empowerment, education and healthcare, the Rohingya crisis, the equitable use of modern technology, and reform of the multilateral system.
The foreign secretary said Tarique Rahman would represent Bangladesh at the UN General Assembly for the first time as prime minister. Bangladesh’s foreign minister will also preside over the same session.
“This is a rare and historic moment for us, as well as a matter of special honour and pride,” he said.
The prime minister will lead the Bangladesh delegation during the visit. After completing his engagements in New York, he is expected to leave for Bangladesh on the night of September 25.
