President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has described farmers as the country’s finest people and the true builders of the nation.
He said the government would take steps to introduce the ‘President’s Agriculture Award’ to honour and encourage farmers for new agricultural innovations and outstanding contributions.
The president made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with an eight-member delegation from the Bangladesh Farmers’ Association at Bangabhaban on Sunday (September 27). The delegation was led by the association’s president, Md Siddiqur Rahman Kul Moyez.
The president said the hard work of farmers, along with the use of modern technology and new high-yield crop varieties, has greatly increased the country’s agricultural production. He also praised farmers for their honest contribution to the progress of society and the nation.
He stressed the need for an effective marketing system to ensure fair prices for agricultural products. He also called for the formation of a national organisation that would protect farmers’ interests regardless of political or ideological differences.
