‘Pichchi Raja’ Escapes from Prison Van, Five Police Officers Suspended

Five police personnel have been suspended after Raja, also known as Pichchi Raja, escaped while being taken from a Dhaka court to Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur. He is accused in 25 cases.

Police have also formed a three-member committee to investigate the incident.

Acting Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Taherul Haque Chauhan confirmed the information on Monday morning (September 28).

Police said the prison van stopped in the Nawjor area of Gazipur after Pichchi Raja asked to use a toilet. The officers on duty took him to a nearby toilet, where he escaped after finding an opportunity.

Five police personnel of different ranks, including the driver of the prison van, were suspended over the incident. The investigation committee, led by the deputy commissioner of police at headquarters, will examine how the escape happened.

A source at Mohammadpur Police Station said Pichchi Raja was arrested on May 19 this year. He was known as a leading drug dealer in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area.

Police went to the airport after receiving information that Pichchi Raja, his wife and his brother-in-law were returning from Nepal. They were later taken into custody with the help of immigration police.
