NBR Raids Four Bars, Seizes Large Amount of Illegal Alcohol, Ginseng and Saffron

THT Report • October 4, 2026
A joint intelligence team of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has seized a large amount of illegal alcohol, ginseng, and saffron during raids on four bars in Dhaka.
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate Additional Director General Rizvi Ahmed shared the information at a press conference after the raids on Saturday night (October 3).
He said four teams carried out the operations simultaneously. The teams included officials from the NBR’s Central Intelligence Cell, customs intelligence, income tax intelligence, VAT intelligence, and local VAT commissionerates.
During a raid on Fu-Wang Club in Gulshan, officials recovered 230 bottles of illegal alcohol from different brands, unauthorized ginseng, and nearly one kilogram of expensive saffron.
At the same time, officials seized 608 litres of unauthorized alcohol from Margarita Lounge in Uttara.
The bar at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Tejgaon was operating under the name Habib Hotel instead of being licensed under the main hotel. It also lacked proper approval from the Department of Narcotics Control. Officials seized 29 litres of unauthorized alcohol from the bar.
The NBR described the operation as a special coordinated drive and said such raids would continue to prevent customs duty evasion and the illegal alcohol trade.
