Marriage Registration Details to Be Linked to NIDs and Passports: Law Minister

Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman has said that marriage registration details will be linked to national identity cards and passports.

He made the announcement on Saturday (October 3) while inaugurating a workshop on the use of online divorce and marriage registration software at the BRAC Learning Centre in Dhaka.

The minister said online marriage registration data would gradually be connected to the central databases for national identity cards, birth registrations, and passports. All marriage registrars across the country will also receive training to use the digital registration system.

He added that online marriage records could help prevent child marriage and polygamy. Linking the information to the three national databases will make it easier to verify a person’s marital status.
