Jamaat Names Sadiq Kayem for Dhaka South Mayor, Selim Uddin for North

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has named Sadiq Kayem, vice-president of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU), as its mayoral candidate for the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

Mohammad Selim Uddin, chief of Jamaat’s Dhaka North city unit, has been nominated for mayor of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar announced the candidates on Monday afternoon (September 14). He was speaking at a conference on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), organised by the National Doctors’ Forum’s Dhaka South unit at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh auditorium in Kakrail.

Parwar said that although parties might contest the national election as part of an alliance, they would participate separately in local government elections. Jamaat had therefore finalised its candidates for the two Dhaka city corporation elections.
