Government Working to Ensure Journalists’ Rights, Including Wage Board: State Minister

The government is working to ensure the overall welfare and professional rights of journalists, including the implementation of the wage board, Information and Broadcasting State Minister Yaser Khan Chowdhury has said.He made the remarks on Monday (September 28) at a consultation meeting on the Cyber Security (Amendment) Act 2026.
The state minister said clear definitions of journalists and media organisations are needed to ensure that genuine journalists are not denied their rights. This would also prevent people who are not journalists from receiving benefits from the Journalists’ Welfare Trust.
He stressed the need to create an acceptable framework through discussions with relevant organisations and institutions. The framework would cover journalists’ wages, professional rights and welfare.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmad and Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam also spoke at the meeting.
Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farzana, Information and Communication Technology Division Secretary Md Mamunur Rashid Bhuiyan and other officials were also present.
