Fuel Prices Rise by Tk 20 a Litre Across the Board
THT Report • September 20, 2026
The government has increased the prices of all types of fuel oil by Tk 20 a litre.
Under the new rates, diesel will cost Tk 135 a litre, kerosene Tk 155, octane Tk 165 and petrol Tk 160. The revised prices came into effect at midnight on Sunday.
The decision was announced in a gazette notification signed by Md Enamul Haque, senior assistant secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, on Sunday (September 20).
The division said international fuel prices and shipping costs had risen significantly since March because of the ongoing war in the Middle East, and the upward trend was continuing.
On April 18, the government raised the price of diesel by Tk 15 to Tk 115 a litre. Despite continued volatility in the international market, domestic fuel prices were then kept unchanged for five months.
The government said it had delayed further price increases in the public interest even though international fuel prices had more than doubled. As a result, the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation suffered losses of around Tk 22,875.66 crore between March and August.
The Energy Division also said fuel prices in Bangladesh remained considerably lower than those in neighbouring countries.
