Election Commission Will Take Necessary Steps to Ensure Fair Polls: EC Secretary

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists at the Election Building in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Thursday.

The EC secretary said the commission would consider practical factors such as the SSC examinations, Ramadan, and different religious and national observances before reaching a well-planned and realistic decision.

He said preliminary discussions had also been held on a special training programme for Election Commission officials, field-level officers, police personnel, and journalists under the United Nations Development Programme’s Ballot Project.

The commission has not yet made a final decision on deploying law enforcement agencies or the military during the elections.

However, Akhtar Ahmed said the commission is committed to maintaining and improving the high standard set by the successful election held on February 12. Any decision will be made after reviewing the local situation and ensuring that voter lists, polling centres, and essential election materials are ready.
