Education Ministry Revises School and College Holiday Calendar

THT Report • September 21, 2026
The Ministry of Education has revised the date of the Fateha-e-Yazdaham holiday in the 2026 academic calendar. Under the new decision, the holiday will be observed on September 23, 2026.
The information was announced in an official notification signed on Sunday (September 20) by Tania Ferdous, deputy secretary of the Government Secondary-1 branch under the Secondary and Higher Education Division.
The notification said the ministry had partially amended its earlier order, issued on May 20, following a decision by the Islamic Foundation.
The holiday had previously been scheduled for September 24 in the school and college calendar. However, the date of the religious observance depends on the sighting of the moon.
As a result of the change, the start of classes for students admitted to Class XI for the 2026–27 academic session has also been postponed by one day.
Classes were originally scheduled to begin on September 23. As all educational institutions will remain closed that day for Fateha-e-Yazdaham, the new starting date has been set for September 24, according to a notice from the Bangladesh Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee.
The relevant students and their parents have already been informed of the revised date.
