Dr Md Saimum Parvez has called for stronger global action against climate change, climate justice and fair financing for vulnerable countries.
Dr Parvez, the prime minister’s special assistant for environment, forest and climate change, made the call while speaking on behalf of Bangladesh at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
He addressed the fourth Climate Vulnerable Forum Leaders’ Meeting, titled “Redefining Development and Cooperation.”
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. It was chaired by Barbados Prime Minister and CVF Chair Mia Amor Mottley.
Highlighting Bangladesh’s climate risks, Dr Parvez said rising sea levels, floods, salinity and cyclones were already disrupting the lives of millions of people.
“Climate change is not a headline for tomorrow; it is our fight for survival today,” he said.
