At least 15 tourists, including former students of Jagannath University, were injured when a double-decker sleeper bus lost control and fell into a pond in Kalapara, Patuakhali. The accident occurred while the group was travelling to Kuakata.

The accident took place at around 7:30 a.m. on Friday (September 4) in the Khalilpur area of the Kalapara–Kuakata Highway.

A group of former students from the university’s 2001 and 2023 batches had chartered the double-decker sleeper bus operated by Iconic Paribahan for their trip to Kuakata. The bus left Dhaka on Thursday night with 20 to 25 passengers on board.

When the bus reached Khalilpur the following morning, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the road and fall into a roadside pond. At least 15 passengers were injured.

A team from the Kalapara Fire Service arrived shortly after the accident and rescued the injured passengers. After receiving first aid, six seriously injured passengers were admitted to the Kalapara Upazila Health Complex.
