Bus Fares Rise by 17 Poisa a Kilometre

THT Report • September 22, 2026
The government has increased fares for diesel-powered buses and minibuses by 17 poisa a kilometre following the recent rise in fuel prices.
The new fares came into effect on Tuesday.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam announced the decision after meeting transport owners at the Secretariat on Tuesday (September 22).
The minister said transport owners had demanded a 20-paisa increase for each kilometre after fuel prices rose by Tk 20 a litre. However, the government approved a 17-paisa increase after considering the public interest and the overall situation.
For long-distance buses, the fare has increased from Tk 2.23 to Tk 2.40 a kilometre.
In Dhaka and Chattogram, the fare has risen from Tk 2.53 to Tk 2.70 a kilometre.
